These are the most frequently asked questions about 3D/4D ultrasound. If you have any questions that are not answered below, please contact us.

No. Elective, non-diagnostic ultrasound services are not covered by insurance.

This is strictly for entertainment/bonding  purposes & it is not a healthcare/medical expense.

No. HSA/FSA/HRA accounts are only for qualifying healthcare related expenses.

"Prenatal ultrasound" is almost always covered by these plans. However, elective ultrasounds are NOT the same as prenatal ultrasounds. Prenatal ultrasounds are performed for the purpose of allowing a doctor to evaluate, measure and diagnose the health & development of a fetus.

Elective ultrasounds are performed purely for the sake of entertainment, keepsake & bonding purposes. Our services are not healthcare related in any way. We do not offer any kind of diagnostic information, nor do we provide any kind of medical/healthcare related assessment or diagnosis.

This really depends on what you’d like to see. Many moms like to have more than one 3D ultrasound to see baby at different stages.

14-20 Weeks: Great time to find out the gender.

20-26 Weeks: This is a fun time for 4D ultrasound video. Baby is very active & small enough to see most of their body at once. If baby is awake, you'll watch him/her kick, wave, grab feet, etc! However, baby will likely be breech which is not ideal for 3D/4D face pictures.

27-33 Weeks: This is the best time to get the close-up, detailed pictures of your baby's face in 3D/4D/HD. Generally by this time baby is head down, which is ideal. Baby looks more like a newborn & the cheeks have filled in nicely with fat.

Yes, at 14 weeks we can determine the gender with a very high accuracy (over 99%)! If you are at least 14 weeks + 0 days, and the gender cannot be seen (due to baby's position, cord, etc), you may return for a free rescan the following week until we can determine the gender.

Usually, but not always. There are so many factors that can affect the results. Every baby scans differently, depending on gestational age, position, placenta, mothers body type & amount of amniotic fluid. We will always do our very best to get you the best images possible, and we use the best, most advanced ultrasound technology available.

Sometimes, if baby is looking face down persistently toward mom's spine, it will be difficult to see the face.  Some babies cuddle up close to the placenta and cover their face with hands or feet. We cannot guarantee specific images, nor can we guarantee that your baby will allow us to get a perfect “full face” picture. Remember with ultrasound, you get to see your baby interacting in his/her natural environment. If baby is sucking his thumb, or rubbing her eye, your pictures will reflect that. Clarity depends upon the amount of amniotic fluid present & how hydrated you are.

If we are unable to obtain any acceptable pictures during your 3D ultrasound, we will invite you back for a one-time rescan, free of charge, within 1-2 weeks.

Yes. 3D/4D/HD ultrasound uses the same safe sound waves and intensity as the 2D ultrasound your doctor uses. All of our ultrasounds are performed by an experienced ARDMS sonographer. Ultrasounds are routine, normal procedures used in all pregnancies throughout the United States. The ultrasound transducer emits sound waves into the body, listens for the return echoes as they bounce back and then generates an image from that data.

No, we will not contact your doctor prior to your appointment. This is an elective ultrasound and we are not looking for any medical problems during your scan, however, if we happen to see something concerning, we will contact your doctor and let them know. We require all clients to have current prenatal care and if you have any concerns, you should contact your doctor. Ultrasonographers in general cannot make a diagnosis.

Yes, absolutely! We see plenty of moms who don't want to know baby's gender until birth. You can still have an 3D/4D ultrasound & see your baby's face. We're experts in determining baby's position, and we know exactly how to scan without revealing the gender. At the start of each appointment, we always ask if you wish to know the gender. We never make a mistake!

Yes, family and friends are always welcome! We encourage you to bring them to your 3D ultrasound if you’d like to. We can comfortably seat up to 10 of your guests in our spacious ultrasound suite. Children are welcome, however, another adult must accompany you & tend to them.

The 15 minute package is an option for moms who aren’t interested in a full package but still want a quick peek & a few pictures of baby. It's not designed for capturing “lots of pictures”. If you’re 26 weeks or less, 15 minutes is suitable, since baby is smaller & you can see them move around in the womb. If you want lots of beautiful face images or you’re over 26 weeks, you will want more time to work with baby. 15 minutes goes very quick, so please be sure this is enough time for your objective. Also, if you are bringing guests, you will want more time to enjoy the scan.

Drink plenty of water for several days/weeks before your appointment to help ensure an adequate amount of clear amniotic fluid. The clarity of your images is determined by your hydration and the amount of fluid around baby's face. About a half hour before your appointment, drink a large glass of cold apple juice so that baby will be awake & active during your scan.

No. We cannot provide any info on the health, growth, or well being of your baby. Those measurements are obtained during a diagnostic medical ultrasound at your doctor’s office, where they will measure baby, assess fetal well being, growth/development and scan for any abnormalities. Our services are purely for entertainment, keepsake & bonding purposes. They are never a replacement for a diagnostic medical ultrasound.

3D/4D is the older ultrasound technology, which creates the bronze/metallic colored images of your baby’s face. 3D is a still image - a picture of your baby. 4D adds the dimension of motion to see your baby moving in real-time. 5D/HD goes even further beyond 4D, and creates the most realistic images of baby with incredible clarity and detail. 5D/HD renders life-like skin tones and adds a digital light source to produce the best images possible.

When is the best time to get a 3D ultrasound?

This really depends on what you’d like to see. Many moms like to have more than one 3D ultrasound to see baby at different stages.

14-20 Weeks: Great time to find out the gender.

20-26 Weeks: This is a fun time for 4D ultrasound video. Baby is very active & small enough to see most of their body at once. If baby is awake, you’ll watch him/her kick, wave, grab feet, etc! However, baby will likely be breech which is not ideal for 3D/4D face pictures.

27-33 Weeks: This is the best time to get the up close, detailed pictures of your baby’s face in 3D/4D/HD. Generally by this time baby is head down, which is ideal. Baby looks more like a newborn & the cheeks have filled in nicely with fat.

Do you accept insurance?

No. This is an elective, non-diagnostic ultrasound. Insurance does not cover our services.

Will I be able to find out the gender of my baby?

Yes, at 14 weeks we can determine the gender with a very high accuracy. However in the event that we cannot see the gender (usually due to the position of baby or cord), we will bring you back for a free rescan the following week, until we are able to determine the gender. At 14 weeks+, we can tell you the gender of your baby with a very high accuracy (over 99%), however, at no time during pregnancy can we ever guarantee the gender with 100% accuracy.

Will I get beautiful, clear pictures of my baby’s face?

Usually, but not always. There are so many factors that can affect the results. Every baby scans differently depending on baby’s position, placental location, gestational age, mothers body type, amniotic fluid, etc. We always try our best to get you the best images possible, and we use the best & latest imaging technology available.

However, we don’t want you to have unrealistic expectations for your 3D ultrasound. Sometimes, if baby is looking down towards your spine persistently, it will be difficult to see the face. Some babies cuddle up close to the placenta and cover their face with hands or feet. We cannot guarantee specific images, nor can we guarantee that your baby will allow us to get a perfect “full front face” shot. Remember with ultrasound, you get to see your baby interacting with his/her natural environment. If baby is sucking his thumb, or rubbing her eye, your pictures will reflect that. Clarity depends upon the amount of amniotic fluid & how hydrated you are.

If we are unable to obtain any acceptable pictures during your 3D ultrasound, we will invite you back for a one-time rescan, free of charge, within 1-2 weeks.

Is 3D ultrasound safe for my baby?

Yes. 3D ultrasound uses the same safe sound waves and intensity as the 2D ultrasound your doctor uses. Our 3D/4D ultrasounds are all performed by an ARDMS sonographer. Ultrasounds are routine, normal procedures used in all pregnancies throughout the United States. The ultrasound transducer emits sound waves into the body, then listens for the return echo as it bounces back, to generate an image from the data.

Will my doctor be notified about my 3D/4D ultrasound?

No, we will not contact your doctor prior to your elective 3D ultrasound appointment. While we are not looking for any problems during your ultrasound, if we were to see something concerning, we would contact your doctor to let them know.

Can I still have a 3D ultrasound if I do not want to know the gender?

Yes, absolutely! We see plenty of moms who do not want to find out gender until birth. You can definitely still have an 3D/4D ultrasound if you don’t want to know the gender! We’re very skilled in determining the orientation and position of your baby, so we know exactly how to scan without showing the gender. You can see the rest of your baby and enjoy this amazing experience. We always ask at the start of each appointment whether you wish to know gender.

Can my kids come to the 3D/4D ultrasound? How many people can I bring?

Family and friends are always welcome! We encourage you to bring them to your 3D ultrasound, if you’d like to. We can comfortably seat up to 10 of your guests in our ultrasound suite. Children are welcome, however, another adult must accompany you & tend to them.

Will the 15 minute package be enough time for me?

The 15 minute package is not designed for capturing “lots of pictures”. It’s an option for moms who aren’t interested in a full package but want a quick peek & a few pictures of baby. If you’re 26 weeks or less, 15 minutes is suitable, since baby is smaller & you can see them move around in the womb.

If you wish to capture lots of beautiful face images or you’re over 26 weeks, you will want more time to work with baby. 15 minutes goes by very quick, so please be sure this is enough time for your objective. Also, if you are bringing guests, you will want more time to enjoy the ultrasound.

What can I do to prepare & get the best pictures possible?

If you want clear images,  you must be well hydrated. At least 4 days prior to your appointment, increase your fluid intake to 8-10 glasses of water per day. This will help ensure you have an adequate amount of clear amniotic fluid. If there is not adequate fluid around your baby’s face, we will NOT be able to see clearly.

To get baby moving, drink a glass of cold apple juice 30 minutes before your appointment.

Will you tell me how big my baby is or if they are healthy?

No. We cannot provide any info on the health, growth, or well being of your baby. Those measurements are taken as part of a diagnostic medical ultrasound at your doctor’s office, where they will measure baby, assess fetal well being, growth & development, and scan for any abnormalities. Elective ultrasounds are purely for entertainment/keepsake & bonding purposes & are never a replacement for a diagnostic medical ultrasound.

What’s the difference between 3D ultrasound, 4D ultrasound & 5D ultrasound?

3D/4D is the older ultrasound technology, which creates the bronze/metallic colored images of your baby’s face. 3D is just a still image – a 3D picture of your baby. 4D adds the dimension of “motion” to the image, and allows you to see your baby move in real-time. HD goes even further beyond 4D, and creates the most realistic images of baby with incredible clarity and detail. HD renders life-like skin tones and adds a digital light source, adding depth, and showing details that could never be seen before.

Do I need an appointment? / Do you take walk-ins?

Appointments are necessary for all of our services & we cannot accommodate walk-ins. We are open by appointment only, and each time slot is scheduled based on the amount of time included in the package. For this reason, we need to know which package you want in advance, and we are not able to allow last minute package changes.

How can I cancel or reschedule my 3D ultrasound?
